Agree on these dates early and be realistic about the timelines. As discussed earlier, make sure to look for specialized designers wherever possible, as this specialization is often the mark of education, skill, and experience in the field. Our guide has everything you need to know to kickstart a freelance business. A company's digital identity greatly influences its performance, and yet, as of 2022, a sample of just over 1,000 small businesses in the US found that 27% of them still didn’t have a website. Here are four essentials to know before starting your freelance journey in web design. Everyone can try Divi AI for free, so update Divi and check it out yourself.

The freelancer's guide to the web design process

An experienced designer can get up to $100 per hour or more — which brings us to at least $200,000 per year. If you use a site builder like Webflow to speed up your workflow, and continue to charge at market rates, you could earn even more. Securing an affordable web developer in Orange County can be tough. When my client needed cost-effective solutions, I agreed to work within their budget. I presented them with various website development packages tailored to their financial constraints. Once they chose a package, I prepared and got their website proposal approved.

Android Designer

Designers with an aesthetic sensibility and a clear vision of what a site should look like can forge the path toward success. A meticulous attention to detail is especially important when you hire a remote web designer because they will work with less direct supervision than on-site staff. You can identify this quality from the sites in a designer’s portfolio, as well as during the interview process. Ensure that designers are getting clear and concise feedback that will help them rearticulate their ideas.

UI Design

Constructive feedback helps to hone in designs and will produce more developed outcomes. Try to meet regularly to discuss the project and address any concerns as they come up. Ensuring that the entire team is up to date with goals and developments keeps everyone in the loop. It is important to choose a channel for communication and establish an ongoing dialogue with all stakeholders of the project. This becomes especially challenging when working with remote freelancers.

Great brand designers are mindful that brands take many forms. Because of this, they will develop visual systems to carry the company’s aesthetic. UI designers are masters of visual language when it comes to human-computer interaction. Their ability to stylize digital products in a manner that is mindful of current best practices, branding, UI patterns, and visual design principles is key. More often than not, they design the aesthetics of the UI elements but not necessarily how the elements behave after an interaction. User experience designers take care of all aspects of a system (website, app, product, service, community, etc.) as experienced by users.

Focus on responsive design and smooth navigation tabs tailored to each audience segment for specific services. Implement a parallax responsive layout optimized for mobile and tablet devices to enhance user experience. This SEO-driven strategy aims to optimize user engagement, improve website visibility, and facilitate smooth navigation across devices. We initiated the web design process by creating two layout mockups for client approval, ensuring alignment with their vision before proceeding to the final design on a staging environment.

Transforming the design process at

Toptal is a marketplace for clients to find website designers and web design services in the world. Each Toptal freelance web designer is thoroughly vetted and trusted by top companies for their most critical web design projects. UX, or user experience, designers are responsible for the human-computer interactions of a product—not only how they look but how they “feel” as well as how they work for users.

Mitch’s positive attitude, creativity, and supportive nature make him a terrific asset to any web design team. In the list above, all of the designers boast an impressive record for web page design projects. Web designers should have mastered every project phase from inception and ideation to site maintenance. Responses to this question reveal a candidate’s ability to see a project through and can provide a feel for how they collaborate and communicate during all the steps in between. While the designer may not yet know your business’s unique goals, they should understand the general goals of businesses in your sector. The answer to this question can help you understand whether a candidate is the right designer for a particular project.

With all that in one place, it’s sole drawback may be that it’s more than what most  freelancers need. Where other time-tracking tools can feel too focused, Freelancy strives to be the all-in-one tool for freelancers, with time-tracking, project management, and invoicing all in one app. In 4 time management tools for teams and designers, we discussed how different time management tools can solve different problems, and how these tools can make you a better freelancer and designer. If you’re from a “developed” country, don’t let this discourage you. I consistently won over 50% of my contracts, even when I was bidding against 30 other people asking for significantly less.

So rather than losing business, I’ve opted for a small down payment, and a schedule for the rest. You can decide on the time you'll commit to a project, but I’d urge you to think of your freelance projects in terms of days or weeks instead. This part of the contract should define a detailed calendar complete with deadlines (and consequences for not meeting them). You know how long it takes to build an entire website — your client probably doesn’t.

Paula Deen House Seasoning

paula deen house seasoning

Like the time I saw her make Puff Pastry Burgers. They looked SO hard to make, but after watching her do it, I thought — hey I can do this! I made them and the family raved about them. I made sure to put her Paula Deen House Seasoning Mix on them as well. I have been watching Paula Deen on Food Network forever.

Paula Deen House Seasoning Mix

House seasoning can taste oversalted if you don’t use garlic powder, onion powder, and black ingredients in equal proportion. This is an easy and flavorful blend that will really kick up most all of your recipes and is perfect on any meat that you are roasting. Use when needed and keep in an airtight container for up to 6 months. Step 2- Add black pepper to the empty container and take the other container of ¼ cup of onion powder. I was making a Crockpot Pork Roast and it called for Paula Deen House Seasoning.

This blood-red controller, by Chris Watters, is resplendent with a modest "Fuckaroooooo" tag line.

Chill Out with the Arctic Camo Special Edition Controller

While the game sadly did not exactly live up to its expectations, it is undeniable how stylish the "Starfield"-inspired controller is. With its clean and retro science fiction aesthetic on full display, the "Starfield" controller is quite an eye-catching Xbox accessory that will complement your gaming rig. The special edition "Starfield" Controller was released before the game and certainly took advantage of the hype surrounding Bethesda's latest epic RPG offering. That said, even without the swelling anticipation from gamers, the "Starfield" controller can stand on its own based on its refined design. For whatever reason, see-through shells were all the rage in the gaming market during the late 90s and early 2000s.

As such, Microsoft also pitched its own entry into this market with the Crystal Controller edition for its original Xbox console. To be fair, transparent shells that allow players to see how their controllers tick weren't the strangest Xbox controller designs that Microsoft greenlit. Here at Newsweek, we have figured out how to get yours looking as close to the real deal as possible. For that authentic Xbox 360 controller look, you will need to choose the "Robot White" color for the body, triggers and bumpers. Finally, the face buttons should be "Black on Colors" and the menu buttons should be "Grey on White."

The "Gears of War" franchise is one of Xbox's staple series that has sold millions of units since its debut in 2006 for the Xbox 360. It goes without saying that such a central part of the Xbox's rise to popularity will also have its own special edition controller. Xbox's Elite controller series features a high-end custom build designed for a peak gaming experience with subtle tweaks to help improve precision and control.

For instance, YouTuber Justus has made a rather convincing homage to the iconic GameCube controller. There is only so much you can do in Design Lab, so obviously it doesn't boast the original M-shaped design, but otherwise the color scheme is absolutely spot on. As soon as the lab opened, the first thing fans set out to accomplish was recreating the old Xbox 360 controller. This design has a lot of sentimental value for many, especially those who grew up with Microsoft's seventh-generation console, so it is hardly surprising to see it being resurrected.

The olive green matte shell has battle-damage detailing, which gives it a burly yet sleek allure. The controller also features a metallic gold radial D-pad, which you can remove to reveal a more traditional four-direction D-pad that incorporates Cortana's signature blue hue, which adds a nice depth to the design. The "Halo Infinite" Elite Series 2 is a limited edition controller that now fetches a high price in the market. Fortunately, gamers also have an alternative in the form of creating their own via Xbox Design Lab.

Less intricate than the other designs featured here, @KyloKen_XA's controller almost entirely comprises a single color. The Star Wars fan has gone very minimalist with their design, utilizing "Carbon Black" and a few hints of "Storm Grey" to evoke famous Sith Lords like Darth Vader and Kylo Ren. There is a "Lightning Yellow" version for Pikachu, "Zest Orange" for Charmander, "Electric Green" for Bulbasaur and "Glacier Blue" for Squirtle. They all look great on their own, but they work even better as a full set and would be a fantastic addition to any game room. It did not take long for people to take the next logical step and start recreating other beloved controllers in Design Lab.

House of Burgesses History & Facts

house of burgesses

The House of Burgesses had its origins in the so-called Great Charter, issued in 1618 by the Virginia Company of London. The arrangement allowed the Virginia Company to retain corporate control over the region while giving the colonists some measure of self-government. In the summer of 1619, Virginia’s newly appointed governor, Sir George Yeardley, called for the selection of two burgesses, or representatives, from each of the colony’s eleven settlements to meet at Jamestown as the first General Assembly of Virginia. Only John Pory, whom Yeardley named speaker of the assembly, had served in Parliament; the others were inexperienced, but had some knowledge of English government and quickly became aware of their own power. After Bacon’s Rebellion, the king and his younger brother, James, the Duke of York (later King James II), began to impose stricter regulation on the colonies, specifically targeting the freedom of action exercised by colonial assemblies like the House of Burgesses. Over the next twenty-five years the Crown sent a succession of governors to Virginia with instructions to limit the power of the assemblies.

These two houses would become more well-defined and autonomous over the years and served as the nexus for opposition to British rule by the colonies in the late 18th century CE. With its origin in the first meeting of the Virginia General Assembly at Jamestown in July 1619, the House of Burgesses was the first democratically-elected legislative body in the British American colonies. About 140 years later, when Washington was elected, the electorate was made up of male landholders. The burgesses adopted resolutions against the Stamp Act and protested the unprecedented taxes by petitioning both houses of Parliament and the king, becoming the defenders of the people of Virginia in the process. The Stamp Act Resolves that burgess Patrick Henry introduced in 1765 and the speech he made criticizing King George III for signing the Stamp Act verged on treason, but set the terms of colonial resistance to British policies for the next decade.

Slavery and the House of Burgesses in Jamestown

English landowners had insisted on meeting with their leaders for consultation in local matters ever since the Magna Carta was signed in 1215. The House of Burgesses was dissolved on May 24, 1774, by the Royal Governor John Murray, Earl of Dunmore. Following the passage of the Intolerable Acts, the Burgesses passed a resolution for a Day of Feasting and Prayer in support of the city of Boston. Some scholars (Price among them) question whether these first Africans were treated as slaves and argue they were considered more along the lines of indentured servants. Evidence does suggest the presence of free blacks in colonial Jamestown and certainly, by 1676 CE, there were black landowners and at least one on record as owning black slaves himself.

Continental Congress: Unprepared for War

In both cases, their agents enjoyed enough success to result in a compromise that reflected the House’s agenda. Thereafter, the House of Burgesses paid the salary and expenses of an agent in London, just as the governor’s Council did. In 1691 the assembly created an office of treasurer of the colony to collect and disburse the tax money raised under its authority.

That June, under threat of violence from Bacon, the assembly voted to create a 1,000-man army with Bacon as commanding general. Charles II later ordered all of the session’s laws repealed because he believed (incorrectly) that Bacon had forced them on the assembly. In March 1643 Wyatt’s successor, Governor Sir William Berkeley, authorized the burgesses to sit apart from the Council members as a separate chamber in a bicameral assembly.

Because the state constitution required that all bills originate in the House (permitting the Senate only to propose amendments), the lion’s share of political power in Virginia was lodged for the next seventy-five years in the House of Delegates. In May 1774, after Parliament closed Boston Harbor as punishment for the Boston Tea Party and the House of Burgesses adopted resolutions in support of the Boston colonists, Virginia’s royal governor, John Murray, earl of Dunmore, dissolved the assembly. The burgesses then reassembled on their own and issued the calls for the first of five Virginia Conventions. These conventions were essentially meetings of the House of Burgesses without the governor and Council. They paved the way for the First Continental Congress and, more broadly, for the revolution in Virginia, creating an army and, in June 1776, adopting a new constitution for the independent Commonwealth of Virginia. In the mid-eighteenth century the House of Burgesses reemerged as the most influential branch of the colony’s government.

Slavery, Expansion, & Powhatan Wars

During the early 1600s, Jamestown, a small British colony, was facing hardships due to poor economic conditions and cumbersome military law under Sir Thomas Dale―the appointed marshal of Virginia colony. In order to save its investments and enhance the colony conditions, the Virginia Company of London set up developmental reforms to attract people to the settlement. In Jamestown, Virginia, the first elected legislative assembly in the New World—the House of Burgesses—convenes in the choir of the town’s church. During the Stamp Act Crisis in 1765, the House of Burgesses played a critical role in opposing the British government’s attempt to enforce the Stamp Act. Patrick Henry introduced a series of resolutions known as the Stamp Act Resolves, which argued that only the General Assembly had the authority to levy taxes on Virginia colonists.

A formidable group of councillors led by William Claiborne and Samuel Mathews (1572–1657) appeared to stand in his way, and Berkeley’s reform of the assembly into a bicameral body offered him a chance to ally himself and the colony’s planters against Claiborne and Mathews. At this time the House of Burgesses gave itself parliamentary privileges to protect its integrity and its members. By the middle of the seventeenth century the General Assembly had developed into a colonial counterpart of Parliament. The provisions of the charter included an organization of self-government by the colonists along with selected representatives to regulate in the legislative assembly. This agreement gave the colonists the freedom of passing their own set of laws under the corporate control of the Virginia Company.

“When you come in now, it feels nice, bright, and big, even though it’s still a galley kitchen,” she shares. Resale value was definitely on the designer’s mind throughout the renovation (the couple recently sold the house), so investing in curb appeal was a big part of the journey from the get-go. She expanded the front porch with stone and wood steps, gave the front door a fresh paint color, and took out the fussy tree that was inconveniently positioned directly in front of a window. Inside, she set out to refurbish and “clean up” as much as possible without making a ton of structural changes to help stay on budget—adding central air-conditioning, though, was a must. The first legislature among the English colonies in America was established in Virginia on July 30, 1619, and was known as the House of Burgesses.

Thus, the assembly of these elected colonists came to be known as the ‘House of Burgesses’. With the governor now being a crown appointee, members of the House of Burgesses lost political power. Further, suspicion grew that as royal governors appointed burgesses to important posts, this would unfairly influence the activities of the House. The House attempted to pass legislation to enact a sort of checks and balances, whereby a Burgess appointed to an additional post by a royal governor was required to resign as burgess. Throughout the 18th century, the House continued to meet, and began to see itself as a Parliamentary equivalent in Virginia.

The first law passed by the assembly during its first session was the regulation on the tobacco price to three shillings per pound. During the next six-day session laws were created on bans against gambling, drunkenness, idleness, and Sabbath observance was made compulsory. The new system provided for local governments as well as a general assembly for the whole colony. Virginia 's House of Burgesses was the first representative assembly in North America. It was created by Governor George Yeardley (c. 1587–1627) under instructions from the Virginia Company of London, which owned the colony of Virginia. In hope of attracting more immigrants to its colony, the company replaced a form of martial law used by the colony's previous governor with English common law.

Meeting in Williamsburg with elder statesmen such as John Robinson, Peyton Randolph, and George Wythe, as well as newer burgesses such as George Mason, Patrick Henry, and Thomas Jefferson, Washington learned to navigate political spheres and began his lessons in statecraft. In 2019, Virginia celebrated the 400th anniversary of the first representative legislative assembly in North America. While the idea of representation has continued to be redefined over the course of America’s experiment in democracy, it is important to understand the origins of democratic assembly in the United States, and its birth in the Virginia House of Burgesses.

Our ongoing mission is to provide teachers, students, and anyone interested in American History with entries, articles, primary documents, videos, and images that provide a solid understanding of the growth and development of the United States. We offer historical research services, along with website design, development, and planning for regional, state, and historical encyclopedias. The Virginia House of Burgesses was established in 1619 as the first representative government in the British Colonies in North America. Many of the Founding Fathers, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry, were members of the House of Burgesses and instrumental in establishing its successor, the General Assembly, comprised of a Senate and a House of Delegates in 1776 CE. A number of scholars in the modern era have argued for the claim that the House of Burgesses, which informed the creation of the United States government, was directly influenced by Native American forms of government, but this claim is consistently challenged.

This convention also made allowances for the establishment of the Virginia Declaration of Rights and a state constitution. The new Virginia state constitution, ratified in 1776, nullified Virginia’s previous colonial-era government, including the House of Burgesses. It create a bicameral state legislature, allowing for citizens to elect members to a Senate and a House of Delegates. The June 1676 session of the House of Burgesses played a critical part in Bacon’s Rebellion (1676–1677), an uprising against Berkeley’s response to Indian attacks on the northern and western frontiers. Berkeley had removed Nathaniel Bacon, the rebellion’s leader, from the governor’s Council in May, but after Bacon was elected to the House of Burgesses from Henrico County, the governor reinstated him as councillor.

The House of Burgesses was a superior school for statesmen, not only for those serving Virginia, but also for those serving the new United States. Peyton Randolph, the House of Burgesses’s last speaker, was the first president of the Continental Congress, and many of the Virginia representatives to Congress had experience as burgesses. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry, and other great revolutionary leaders of Virginia served first in the House of Burgesses, where they learned the skills that enabled them to lead in founding the new nation. A democratic form of government had been established in North America over a thousand years before the first English colonist set foot on the land.

Buying Solar Panels in 2024: The Complete Guide

solar panel design

A battery system is essential to compensate for the absence of any electrical output from the cells at night or in overcast conditions; this adds considerably to the overall cost. Each battery stores direct current (DC) electricity at a fixed voltage determined by the panel specifications, although load requirements may differ. DC-to-DC converters are used to provide the voltage levels demanded by DC loads, and DC-to-AC inverters supply power to alternating current (AC) loads. Stand-alone systems are ideally suited for remote installations where linking to a central power station is prohibitively expensive.

Mistakes Homeowners Make When Going Solar

Consumers have different financial options to select from when deciding to go solar. In general, a purchased solar system can be installed at a lower total cost than system installed using a solar loan, lease, or power purchase agreement (PPA). It should also be noted that energy efficiency upgrades complement solar energy economically. By using Energy Star appliances and other products in your home, you’ll need less solar energy to power your home.

How Should a Solar Photovoltaic System Be Designed and Installed?

Additionally, consider the available space for panel installation and evaluate if the location is suitable for solar panel mounting. South-facing rooftops with minimal shading generally offer the best solar exposure, but east and west-facing orientations can also be viable options depending on the specific circumstances. To put it simply, adding solar design software to the solar sales process improves technical capabilities and expedites administrative work, which all contribute to a more effective sales process. The program speeds up project workflows, shortens installation times, and ultimately advances solar adoption and sustainability. Solar design software does comprehensive ROI assessments in addition to cost estimates to better forecast the solar investment's long-term financial advantages. Solar platforms create proposals that show the payback period and continuous savings by taking into account energy output, local utility prices, and potential incentives.

This independence not only provides you with more control over your energy consumption but also shields you from escalating energy prices and potential power outages. With a PV system in place, you become the master of your own energy destiny. The final step ensures all the wiring is done correctly and the system functions as intended, producing the expected amount of power. When sunlight hits the solar cells in a PV system, it excites the electrons in the cells and generates a flow of electric current. Each solar cell is a small sandwich of semi-conductive material, typically silicon. You'll next need to schedule a site visit with your installer as a final check to ensure the solar panel system you're purchasing is suitable for your home.

When installed correctly, these panels can blend seamlessly with your home’s existing design. They add an intriguing layer of modernity, especially when the design of the panels complements the architectural aesthetic of the house. Moreover, arranging your panels in certain designs can also serve an educational purpose. For instance, a solar-array in the form of a world map might inspire curiosity about green energy in a school setting.

Automatic population of the rooftop using an irradiance map and shading analysis for optimum placement of the solar panels, so you can deliver the best possible layout for your customer. The House was presided over by a Speaker and functions were carried out by committees. Washington served on the standing committees of Propositions and Grievances, Elections and Privileges, and Religion, as well as being placed on various committees to write bills or negotiate with other groups. Much of the House’s business was evaluating petitions from the public for specific interventions. Early in Washington’s career, he was placed on committees to evaluate the petitions of men who had served in the French and Indian War.

Attempts at limitation included eliminating annual sessions, prohibiting the legislators from hearing appeals decided in the colony’s General Court, and vetoing bills on certain subjects or even sending them to the king for him to veto. The governors seized from the burgesses the right to appoint the clerk of the House, though the body retained the right to appoint their speaker and other officers. For the next thirty to forty years, Virginia’s royal governors and, to a lesser extent, its councillors, wielded larger shares of political power than the elected burgesses. House of Burgesses, representative assembly in colonial Virginia, which was an outgrowth of the first elective governing body in a British overseas possession, the General Assembly of Virginia. The General Assembly was established by Gov. George Yeardley at Jamestown on July 30, 1619. It included the governor himself and a council—all appointed by the colonial proprietor (the Virginia Company)—along with two elected burgesses (delegates) from each of the colony’s 11 settlements.

It seems that by November 1757, some already knew Washington’s intentions to run in Frederick County.4 This time, despite still not in the area, Washington had friends campaign for him. He also supplied drinks for those voting, which was a rather common occurrence during 18th-century elections. Specify between which dates you want to search, and what keywords you are looking for.

Virginia Company, Jamestown, & Tobacco

In colonial America, Maryland and Virginia had governing bodies known as the House of Burgesses. The first meeting of the Virginia General Assembly in 1619 established the House of Burgesses in Virginia. Meeting in the wooden church at Jamestown, the General Assembly followed orders derived from the Virginia Company’s “Great Charter” of 1618. The new charter was a necessary next step in the government and regulation of the Virginia colony.

The Last Session

Many of the burgesses, including Washington, met the next day to sign a non-importation association. Three days later Washington joined the burgesses remaining in Williamsburg to sign a resolution calling for a meeting in August which would become the first Virginia Revolutionary convention. The membership of the five Revolutionary conventions was almost entirely made up of burgesses.

Slavery, Expansion, & Powhatan Wars

The word ‘Burgesses’ originated during the Dark Ages when King Alfred the Great (849 – 899 CE) innovated a national defense measure in England by the organization of ‘burghs‘ meaning “fortress” or “castle” or “fortified towns”. The word eventually developed into ‘borough’, meaning a place in London, later a representative official originating from such a place came to be known as ‘Burgess’ in the English House of Commons in Parliament. Voting for the burgesses was limited to landowning males, 17 years of age or older.

The burgesses were the only elected public officials in Virginia at that time, and they vigorously defended both the interests of Virginia’s increasingly wealthy planters, who began to dominate state and local politics, and the institutional interests of the House. In subsequent decades, the House of Burgesses successfully defended the interests of the tobacco plantation economy its members represented. The burgesses continued to meet extra-legally in secret locations around Williamsburg, including the Raleigh Tavern, to discuss their next course of action. From these meetings came the Virginia Conventions, wherein many of the elected members were former burgesses. The first four conventions largely dealt with how to plan for the defense of the colony in the event of war, including establishing the Committee of Safety. The fifth Virginia Convention in 1776, however, formally declared the relationship between Virginia and King and Parliament “totally dissolved,” and instructed the Virginia delegates to the Second Continental Congress to vote in favor of a resolution on independence.

By unanimous vote, Martin was censured and ordered to appear before the legislature to give his side of the story. He was ordered to remit a certain amount to the assembly as security that neither he nor his people would molest the indigenous tribes or touch their property without consent in the future. He was not required, however, to seek permission from the governor for trade with natives which established policies regarding personal property in the colonies. A provision was then passed, the first, protecting the rights of the natives to their land, selves, and property.

In the 1715 election the voters in many counties, fearing that the lieutenant governor was gaining too much influence with representatives dependent on him for their income, defeated many of those burgesses. The new members of the House passed a bill to repeal the law, but Spotswood killed the bill. Two years later Virginia planters succeeded in having the king veto the original law. The General Assembly then passed a law requiring that if the governor or lieutenant governor appointed any burgess to the office of sheriff or any other office of profit, the burgess had to resign from the House. Later, in 1730, when Lieutenant Governor William Gooch proposed a new tobacco inspection law, the assembly enacted it and retained the provisions that prevented the executive from appointing burgesses in an attempt to increase his influence in the assembly. By the beginning of the eighteenth century, the House’s power had lessened considerably, but it remained an essential institution in the colony’s government.

The powder room revamp was a personal project for Burgos’s husband (they didn’t call in a contractor for the makeover). “We are both from Martinique originally, so when we saw this palm leaf wallpaper at the Beverly Hills Hotel, we just loved it. To free up some visual space, they took out the unnecessary vanity and went with a sleek, suspended sink. An all-white kitchen has the tendency to scream “house flipper.” One with moody black upper cabinets, not so much. Burgos chose door fronts that are made out of smoked glass so you can still catch a glimpse of the pretty dishes and glassware on the other side. But starting with the Virginia General Assembly, Americans had 157 years to practice democracy.

An important change came about in 1643 when Governor Sir William Berkeley allowed the House of Burgesses to meet separately, without the assembled governor or council. This created a two-system (bicameral) legislature for the first time in Virginia’s history. In 1713 Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood pushed through the assembly a law to require in every county the construction of a public tobacco warehouse where inspectors would grade all tobacco before export. The objective was to increase the quality of exported tobacco and thereby increase the price that English merchants paid Virginia planters.
